Kansas State Tax Extensions: Business, Personal, Information and Nonprofit Tax Returns
You can attach the copy of Federal extension (Form 4868 for personal tax extension and Form 7004 for business tax extension ) to obtain a state extension for personal and business extensions. There is no separate extension request form for Kansas. However, there are payment vouchers (K-40V & K-120 for personal & business extensions respectively) to make payments. How I get extension of time for my state?If you are unable to complete your K-120 by the filing deadline, you may request an extension of time to file. If you filed federal Form 7004 with the IRS for an extension, enclose a copy of that form with your completed K-120 return to automatically receive a six-month extension to file your Kansas return. Kansas does not have a separate extension request form. If you are entitled to a refund, an extension is not required to file the return after the original due date.
How to make the Payment?To pay the balance due for an extension, use the Kansas Corporate Payment Voucher (K-120V) and mark the box indicating an extension payment. If you do not pay the tax due (may be estimated) by the original due date, you will owe interest and may also be charged a penalty on any balance due.
You must enclose with Form K-120 a copy of the following federal return pages as filed with the IRS. Do not Return enclose copies of pro forma returns. KDOR reserves the right to request additional information as necessary.
Pages 1 through 5 of the federal return or consolidated federal return, whichever is applicable. If a consolidated return, you must enclose a company-by-company spreadsheet of income and expense to total the consolidated federal taxable income and a company-by-company spreadsheet of the consolidated balance sheet including Schedules M-1 and M-2. Â„ Federal schedules to support any Kansas modifications claimed on Form K-120.Â„ Federal Forms 851, 1118, and 5471, as applicable.

Your Federal ReturnIf you file Form K-40 using a Kansas address, you do not need to include a copy of your federal return. If your Form K-40 shows an address other than Return Kansas, you must enclose a copy of your federal return (1040EZ, 1040A or 1040 and applicable Schedules A-F) with your Kansas return
