Filing a Personal Tax Extension Form 4868
IRS Form 4868 - ”Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return,” is used to apply for an additional 6 months to file Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, 1040NR, 1040NR-EZ, 1040-PR or 1040-SS.
You do not need to explain why you are asking for the extension, but you are required to properly estimate your 2012 tax liability and file Form 4868 by the due date of your return. For most people, the due date for Form 4868 is April 15, 2013.
Note: You are still required to pay any tax due by the due date; the Form 4868 extension does not extend the time to pay.
You can extend your IRS income tax deadline using Express Extension to electronically file Form 4868. This will extend the filing deadline to October 15. You can get it done in a matter of minutes. Our site is encrypted, safe and secure. Your information goes to the IRS and that's it.

Steps to E-File Form 4868
Create your Express Extension account and click Create New Extension on your account Dashboard. You'll need to estimate the total income tax payment for the filing year--if you owe money that is. This is generally a ballpark figure. Some customers simply assume a similar tax situation to the last year, but with the recent economic turbulence, that might not apply. Try to give as accurate an estimation as possible.
Once you've got your information and estimation in hand, simply follow the directions, fill out the Form 4868 online, and we'll do the rest. Make sure to type carefully and accurately--no sense in getting rejected over a typo!
